Just about two decades back, the internet was almost non-existent globally. It has now grown into the largest, always available database of knowledge and information ever known to humankind within that period.

It has completely transformed the way people live their lives. It has affected how we communicate, socialize, work, and everything else.

One of the biggest impacts of the internet is how we impart and imbibe knowledge and education.

Rather than just being an enhanced version of distance learning, the benefits of online learning are much more, and it is completely changing the concept of conventional classrooms. It is spawning a new era in the field of education.

One of the most important benefits of the online education system is that it has shrunk geographical distances and made the entire world a small place where you can connect with anyone on any part of the globe with just a single click.

The technological advancements in recent years have helped the world move forward unhindered, even in the crippling times of the global pandemic.

Role of Online Learning During The Pandemic

As the world struggled to come to terms with the pandemic's economic and humanitarian crisis, the education system looked like the worst hit. There was no way children would be able to attend physical classes.

The future looked bleak, and nobody ever believed that the effects of online education would be so far-reaching that it would so successfully cover up for the lack of physical classes.

The online education system ensured that the lockdown didn't drastically affect the learning process, and instead of physical classrooms, the teaching and learning process moved online.

We look at the various advantages of online learning to students and teachers alike.

Advantages for Students

1. Lesser Distractions And Problems During Learning

Peer pressure plays a huge role in students' attentiveness in traditional physical classes. The focus is less on learning and more on other activities dictated by what the peer group decides to do.

As a result, learning suffers as the teaching staff spends more time restoring decorum and discipline in the classroom by addressing the behavioral problems of the students.

Another huge benefit of e-learning for students is that it virtually eliminates the more disturbing aspects of bullying in physical classrooms.

Though cyberbullying can be equally bad, there are ways in which it can be monitored and controlled online to a higher degree, which would not be possible in traditional classrooms.

2. Easier Attendance

Another one of the valuable advantages of online learning that kids welcome is that you can attend classes from the comfort of your home.

It does away with the tiresome process of traveling to school, and the kids can avoid getting soaked in the rain or bearing the chilly cold winter climates,

So, it doesn't matter how far away you live from the school facility or what weather conditions are like in your location; just a click to log in to your virtual classroom, and you are present for the class, always on time.

3. Great Option For Introverted kids

Many introverted children suffer during group activities in a physical classroom. They tend to avoid events like group discussions, as they are not comfortable in a physical classroom setup. However, it is a lot different during online classes.

The level of discomfort during online class is far lesser for introverts, as they do not have to interact with teachers and fellow students face to face.

This increases their level of interaction with their teachers and other students.

Further, most of us who have come through a school education system would know that our queries are not answered most of the time.

We can utilize the email facility to get our queries answered with online learning.

Advantages For Teachers

1. Attention to Needy Students

When it comes to traditional classrooms, it is not possible for the teachers to always look out for weaker and struggling students to keep up with the speed of learning.

They worry that such students may fall behind and would not be able to catch up with the other students in the class.

Though teachers are concerned that online classes might worsen, as per their observation, students are much more proactive in approaching teachers for help regarding the lessons, and the students do not worry about their learning disabilities being exposed in front of the entire classroom.

Hence, teachers can identify students who face more difficulties and provide specific assistance for their problems related to the course.

2. Lesser Load of Administrative Work

It is a widely known fact that teachers are entrusted with administrative tasks such as filing papers and other tasks, which certainly affects their teaching.

As schools restructure their procedures, there is a slew of clerical tasks that the teachers have to fulfill.

Most teachers would say that they are overworked. Apart from planning lessons, teaching, preparing for examinations and evaluations, and several such chores, they also need to look after daily attendance, monitor school spending, draft proposals, etc.

Due to online education, there are far fewer offline activities and events that require teachers to draw up the paperwork. Technology allows teachers to focus on their primary duty, teaching, instead of getting bothered by paperwork.

3.  Availability of Recorded Sessions

With packed schedules of classes and consultation slots in a day, the teachers might find it difficult to track what they taught to each class during the week.

Fortunately, the platforms that host online classes provide the convenience of recording the sessions for future reference.

Teachers do not have to put in additional time and effort for students who miss out on classes. The recorded sessions can be shared with the students, and they can easily pick up on what they missed out on.

4. Easier to Update Course Materials And Content

Teachers often print their course notes for distribution, only to find some unintentional mistakes or typos.

It would seem unprofessional to use a pen to correct those errors, and at the same time, it might be even worse if those mistakes are left uncorrected, resulting in the students picking up wrong concepts.

One of the e-learning platform benefits is that the uploaded course materials can be replaced easily with corrected copies.

Conclusion

Over the last couple of years, online education has grown by leaps and bounds, and the importance of online learning has been known worldwide.
